Why is NETFLIX failing and FALLING?

Their Subscriptions are decreasing. Stock/share prices to follow, surely? So WHY and HOW does the streaming phenomenon go from Hero to ZERO?

Here's a few points to consider:

  • They INCREASED their price. At a time whereby the cost of living has gone UP. BIG MISTAKE! Would YOU have spent $16/almost £20 per month on VIDEO rentals? No. Ergo, one is less likely to renew a streaming counterpart which costs same.

  • CONTENT! Yes, Netflix makes films and shows. Great! But you can get through that fairly quickly. And you possibly have most of it either on DVD/Blu Ray or can access key clips via YouTube. Speaking of which:
  • YOUTUBE: It is now entirely feasible to derive daily entertainment from a FREE platform. Every review video etc arguably combs over the content you might otherwise watch, in half the time. Why invest in watching a Netflix product, when one can digest a summary and thereby, the entertainment value, via free counterpart platform?

  • AMAZON! Pay for Prime and you get guaranteed delivery models on parcels. But you also get all that free film and television content, both original and otherwise. They just bought MGM. Cue EVERY SINGLE JAMES BOND FILM a click away. Netflix cannot compete with that, surely? Can THEY deliver parcels and entertain you? NO!
  • DISNEY PLUS: Say what you want about their 'original' content. I have said, in many cases, it is lacking a certain charm. But: STAR WARS MOVIES! MARVEL! PIRATES! ON DEMAND? Seriously, for what? a fiver a month? NOT BAD. Beat that, Netflix!

  • Serial killers and darkness: Note what trends and is publicised. Jimmy Savile! John Wayne Gacy! Seriously, Netflix? If THOSE are your USP heroes? Then when I log on and wanna escape the evils of the world, I will end up avoiding your site. Because that fixation with darkness, evil, real world trauma and tragedy aint gonna have me thinking 'yes! let's pay more for this'.
  • POST PANDEMIC: People are going OUT! Visiting actual CINEMAS / MOVIE THEATERS. Because it is FUN. Yes, Covid is with us, forever and new variants with that. But no. Shutting down everything, again? Unthinkable. People LIKE to see other actual human beings and enjoy shared experiences. The notion of lazily retreating to the sofa now ought be a last rather than first resort?
  • An overdone strength is a WEAKNESS! Seriously. Netflix became a VERB rather than noun. And ironically enough? Thereby, lost its own value, because much like a Hoover is simply a vacuum cleaner that can be a 'Dyson' (though one does not 'Dyson' the house yet?); so Netflix as a word became generic rather than specific. When we say 'Netflix' we can now mean ANY form of streamed content and THAT is a BIG PROBLEM.
Can they recover? Sure! Partner up. Buy and make more stuff; reduce prices; offer more services/products. Or..go the same way as the very thing you replaced (BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO!).
